Jabar Shumate, Vice President for the University Community, University of Oklahoma

On Tuesday, September 13th, the SWOSU Libraries will welcome Jabar Shumate, the Vice President for the University Community at the University of Oklahoma. Vice President Shumate will be speaking about civil rights, social justice, and diversity on university campuses.

Vice President Shumate was appointed following the racial incident involving a University of Oklahoma fraternity in March, 2015. He has been tasked with overseeing all diversity programs within the University and making campus life more inclusive.

V.P. Shumate is a Tulsa native and graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he served as student body president. V.P. Shumate has previously served in both the Oklahoma House of Representatives and the Oklahoma Senate. He has held leadership positions in the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus and currently serves as a member of the board of trustees for the National Urban League. He holds a Master of Human Relations degree from the University of Oklahoma.

The event will take place at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 13th in the Memorial Student Union Ballroom. We welcome all members of SWOSU and the surrounding communities. Admission is free.
